Personality Profiles

It's amazing how different and distinct these little people's personalities are already!  The girls we distinguished even in the womb.  We were going to wait and see them before assigning names...but their behavior was evident enough to determine who was Betsy and who was Estelle by 22-23 weeks.

Here is what we have observed so far:

Betsy -The Drama Queen
In the womb, Betsy was always more active than Estelle.  She fought with her brother and cuddled with her sister.  She was feisty.  When the nurses would try to get her heart tone, she would regularly move out of range or kick the monitor.  No doubt she has faced the most obstacles since birth, but some how it seems she just likes the attention!  She drops her numbers (oxygen rate, blood pressure or heart rate) whenever nurses make any changes to her environment.

Estelle - The Overachiever
In the womb, I could tell Estelle was calm.  She had the least movement, hung out at the top of my belly to mind her own business and was quite a little model.  She would be perfectly posed for a profile shot at every ultrasound!  In the NICU, Estelle has needed the least amount of support.  So far she has avoided being put on the oscillator (a more serious ventilator) and skipped out on surgery.  Four days ago her arterial line was removed, meaning her blood pressure has been stable.  She has been taking feedings since day 3!

Dane - The Shark
Day one I remember David saying his girls looked at him sweetly and Dane, well he just looked mad!  He likes to call the shots, pulling out his feeding tube and refusing to stay tucked in.  Lately the nurses have been referring to him as rowdy, he will not hold still!  In the incubators the nurses place little beenie babies for the kids snuggle up around.  Dane has always had a shark.  I thought it was a fitting name for our big tough guy :)
