7 Week Update

  The triplets are seven weeks old today!  They had a great weekend, mainly because they were spoiled with an extra day with daddy.  David had Monday off and he took full advantage of the extra time managing to hold each of them every day :)  This may sound simple, but it's recommended to hold them  for at least an hour, so we schedule holds around meals, stretching and bathroom breaks!

 This has gotten SO much easier because we can now get Dane and Estelle out of their isolette without needing a nurse!  They are very stable and getting so big!  Highlight of the weekend:  the nurse called them 'feeder/growers'!!  In other words, they do not have any serious medical concerns and mainly just need to learn to eat and keep packin' on the lbs!  Here are their current weights:

  Oh wait, maybe my favorite highlight was getting to breast feed Dane and Estelle.  They did amazing!!  Dane ate 8mls and Estelle ate 9mls!  Not bad for their our first try.  We had some help...Tina, the fabulous lactation consultant is a miracle worker.  One of the nurses said she is like a drill sergeant for the babies, having them do exactly what they are supposed to, and after seeing her in action I would definitely agree!  Only she is like a sweet, calm, angel drill sergeant :)   Those two have also bumped down a level on their nasal cannula from a 2 liter to 1.5 and tolerated it beautifully.

  Oh Betsy.  With the progress next door it is difficult to still see her on CPAP, especially because her oxygen requirements haven't been lowering as quickly as we would like (she hovers from 34-39%).  We voiced our concern and were reassured that she is fine and just made it onto the growth curve.  They expect to see improvement as she grows and if not, they have other treatments available to help her little lungs mature.  We are ready.  Ready to see her face not distorted with the CPAP and ready to see her not work so hard.  Regardless, the girl LOVES to cuddle and gets plenty of snuggles and attention.


  And for fun, here is Estelle and her walrus!  His job is to try to keep her from rolling onto the other side, which is her favorite.  They all refuse to lay flat on their back and its causing their little heads to get flat on the sides.  David lectures them about this frequently :)  and I just ordered a Noggin Nest that won't give them a choice.  Such a mean mom.

  Also, thanks for all the feedback on the high chair situation.  I haven't given up on the triplet table quite yet, but loved all the useful suggestions!!
