That's right, What not to say to someone expecting triplets. Triplets are rare. My mother says the reason for people's ignorant comments is simply- they don't know what to say. I would like to remind my mother of the lesson she instilled in me as child: If you can't say something nice, Don't say anything at all. Thanks Thumper!
So in an effort release pent up frustration and horror that has been building for the past 10 weeks I have assembled a list of things one shouldn't say to a woman pregnant with triplets (or any of her family members!)
1. Was that natural? The biggest offense. Who has the balls to ask this, well...a lot of people. First of all, do you think they realize what they are asking? They are inquiring about the conception of my children. Since when is that acceptable?!?!? Coworker, acquaintance, stranger- and they think they should be privy to this extremely personal information??? Secondly, 'natural' isn't even the correct terminology. If you are going to be intrusive, at least use the proper vocabulary! The question they are trying to impolitely ask should be phrased, was that spontaneous or assisted? Quite frankly, if you are not one of my closest friends or immediate family members...why do you need to know?? Dawn advises me to respond, "What difference does it make?" That should shut people up.
2. One and Done! Guess your getting your whole family out of the way! Or any other presumptuous comment about being done having children. NEWS FLASH: just because you couldn't handle more than 3 kids, doesn't mean my husband and I are finished. My 8th grade teacher taught me the danger when you assume...you know- it makes an ASS out of U and ME. Clearly everyone needed to have Mrs. Klindera.
3. Was she taking something? This question has not been directed at me, but rather my sisters. They find it hilarious. Taking something??? Like what, a triplet pill??? Seriously people.
4. Your thoughts on being a stay-at-home mom. Save it. Especially if you are younger that 24, unmarried and absolutely nothing like me. Just don't talk.
Answers.
Yes- I was taking something...lots of different things over the course of 1 year. We tried several medications, combinations of shots and pills all to combat cysts and grow follicles. Didn't see that coming did you people?? I have PCOS aka cysts on my ovaries that prevent the normal development and release of eggs. However, if you just asked me if my children were 'natural', I am not going to attempt to explain this to you. So yes, it was assisted- but not through IVF.
I cried the day we found out, not because I was sad or happy...I was worried. I made David promise we could have more kids. He did. Now I'm fine. I am staying home with my children and it is going to be challenging and rewarding. If you can't tell, I am one sassy and protective pregnant lady- so remember what Thumper says and we should be just fine :)
